First it was golf carts. Now the Scranton city council has been asked by local residents for an amendment to the ordinances to allow ATVs and UTVs on the streets of the city. The request was made during the open forum of the council’s Aug. 13 meeting.
It was just a couple years ago that the council approved allowing golf carts on the streets. The ordinance restricts the streets and requires safety equipment on the carts in order to be more visible to vehicular traffic.
The council voted to appoint Melinda Hinners as interim clerk. After submitting her resignation in July 2018, she has continued to assist city officials with financial and other business. The council has been unsuccessful in finding a suitable replacement for Hinners. Some offers have been extended for employment but only one person accepted. She lasted about a month.
The council approved a budget amendment for the 2020 fiscal year and a resolution awarding the contract for the wastewater treatment facility improvement project.
Discussion included tree removal along the fence line at Scranton School Memorial Park, the property at 1000 Grant St, hiring and code enforcement. Reports were provided on parks, community center and library.
